Simonsbath - Picked Stones - Cow Castle - River Barle Valley - Simonsbath

This is a picturesque, fairly easy circular walk. It takes you through one of the highest beech-woods in England and across country, almost certainly to meet some Exmoor ponies. It passes a well-preserved Iron Age fort and then up the valley of one of the largest and most attractive rivers to run off Exmoor, passing on the way the remains of an old copper mine.

Really great walk. Easy to follow and plenty of great scenery/wildlife. Thanks!

Did this walk on a beautiful Autumn morning. The views all the way are sensational with the view back from the top of the Fort worth the climb. The last two miles meandering back with the river finished the perfect walk.

Did this lovely walk on a misty and icy 1/1/2009 and it's a gem. Very pretty, a real feeling of isolation, gorgeous rivers and fairly gentle. My GPS clocked the elevation gain at 500m rather than the 75m quoted, but that mustn't put you off.
