The walk is to the north of Slaidburn and mainly follows farm tracks to reach the dam across the reservoir. It then takes an easily followed permissive path just above the edge of the reservoir with wide views of southern Bowland. A very short road section passes the Church of St James, reconstructed here after the village of Stocks-in-Bowland was lost beneath the waters. Some pastures are followed by farm tracks and an easy descent to meet the outward route a little way from Slaidburn, where there is a cafe next to the car park and a pub a little way off.
