Although the first part of this walk is alongside a road (with wide, grassy verges) and not on footpaths, I think it's a great little walk. You get good views all across the Borders from the Eildons to Carter Bar with no real ascent and also a real sense of Border history with a visit to Smailholm Tower, a fantastically preserved fortified Border house, before returning to the village along quiet country lanes. Reiving or raiding was endemic in this part of the country and the tower is an excellent memorial to those times. This is a great walk to do if heading north, as it gives a chance to get out of the car and stretch your legs.
