This is a tranquil walk across the fringes of the Lancashire plain on footpaths that are little used. On the more open stretches there are good views of Winter Hill to the east, while the section between Waymarks 2 and 4 is noted for the number of birds to be found there, in particular, snipe. It is a walk that is equally good for the shorter days and has an interesting historical context.
