A walk in what is known as "High Leicestershire", starting from the lovely village of Somerby and following well marked paths to the fantastic Iron Age Fort of Burrough Hill, before returning via Burrough-on-the-Hill. Great views over Melton Mowbray and to Charnwood and the Leicestershire Wolds. The walk is through rolling country with enough ascent, great views and history to keep you interested

The Permissive Path through the woods below the Fort is closed on Thursdays - there is no easy diversion so best avoided on thursdays

For anyone not familiar with the village of Somerby, the start of this walk is near the school, opposite Manor Close. Can't comment on most of the walk unfortunately - the first mile was so muddy we had to abandon it. Might be lovely, but make sure you've had a good dry spell!

A lovely walk with good views from the hill fort. The walk is well signposted and the instructions clear. Having just moved to Rutland we are surprised how few walks there are on Walking World when the countryside is as beautiful as this. We will do this walk again.

Great walk, first time to the hill fort and it was very impressive. The views on the top are fantastic all the way across to Bradgate and Bardon Hill Route was well signposted and good clear instructions. Very enjoyable day out. Thanks
