An easy circular walk from the edge of Spennymoor that features great lane-walking followed by woods and fields with finally a highly popular railway path to finish. The route skirts the villages of Byers Green and Binchester.
The walk starts from the surfaced car park on the Auckland Way path on Whitworth Road, Spennymoor. Pleasant lane-walking follows with a short road-walk as the route passes Whitworth Hall and travels along the delightful Hagg Lane to intersect the village of Byers Green. Another fairly short road-walk is followed by a short section through a wood, then a really easy section through fields as the route rises gently to the highest point of the walk, where the view ahead looks across to the town of Bishop Auckland with its distinct Seven Arches Viaduct. From here the route descends gradually to intersect and then traverse the upper part of the charming and sometimes muddy Bellburn Wood to intersect the Auckland Way railway path. The walk then follows the popular path for a little over two miles to return to the car park at Spennymoor.
