Initially a very pleasant footpath and cycleway alongside Hen Brook is taken from the town centre to the outskirts at the railway line where, quite suddenly the route becomes very rural. The field margins are wide and for the most part firm underfoot, so walking is easy and relaxed. There is virtually no tarmac and what there is does not detract from an enjoyable walk. Abbotsley, the midpoint, is a small village set on a hill and boasting a fine pub, The Eight Bells, a great place for lunch.
