Starting off at a pay and display car park at the top of the High Street, this walk quickly heads down the road past the busy shops and noisy traffic to follow quieter country lanes and eventually round to the splendid forests and meadows of Sutton Fen. This 1.8km horseshoe path offers some of the best countryside on the walk, with views through undisturbed woodlands and flowering meadows.
The route eventually arrives at Stalham Staithe with some splendid views across the water to some of the rarer boats on the Broads, thanks to the Broads Museum. Slightly further along you may notice a small, rounded building just off to the left, this is a post-medieval mill and although private you can still see it very well from the road.
The walk continues past the Staithe and follows very quiet country lanes and footpaths round past Chapel Field. So names because of a medieval chapel that once stood in the field by the farm. The route crosses the A149 and joins the Weavers Way Long Distance Path but only for a short way which leads you back to the car park. The Weavers Way follows a straight path along the old railway line that once connected Stalham with North Walsham.
