Stanmer Park is a deservedly popular picnic site and leisure area. Owned by Brighton and Hove Council, this area is the centre of considerable conservation efforts. We walk past Stanmer House and Church as well as the old village. Then it's up to the downs for a walk through typical downland, undulating fields and copses and on to the top for fine views of the Weald from the South Downs Way and Ditchling Beacon, through National Trust land and back through some interesting old mixed deciduous woodland.

Stanmer Park was a surprise to me - what a pleasant open area, nice house and church, perfect for a family picnic at beginning or end of a walk. And the sat nav postcode brought me straight there - no problem coming off the A27 even Eastbound. The walk up Ditchling Beacon was done by seemingly the most gradual route possible, so wasn't as bad as it sounds if you know Ditchling Beacon. The views on the walk are great, and the directions are spot on. Thanks Ian.
