Stanstead Abbots - Wareside - River Ash - Great Amwell - River Lee - Stanstead Abbots

Stanstead Abbots is a small town with a long history. Its chief industry is the production of malt and you pass the maltings on this walk. It is also a convenient stopping place for boats using the River Lee. The high ground just outside the town is given over to agriculture and the views from it are superb. After descending to the River Ash this walk provides entirely different views and you will have the opportunity to stay awhile at Amwell Nature Reserve, where the variety of birdlife and other wildlife is immense.

Did this walk last weekend, found it really varied, river, woods and open fields. Mostly flat so fairly easy walking.

4/21/2013 - Sid Marks

A very pleasant, easy walk with fine views along the way.Worked out around 4.5 miles. Just 2 updates, which are, when you leave the carpark at the start, you turn left to reach the High St,not right as stated. At waymark 6 as the track bends left, there is now a stile to cross to continue along the bottom edge of the field.
