We begin with an easy ramble through Stithian's playing-fields and footpath to bring us to the old foundry. We continue on a footpath that joins the picturesque lane leading to Ponsanooth and the Kennall Vale, which we will divert from and rejoin once on a country footpath. Next, we enter the beautiful and historically fascinating vale with its woods, tumbling river and so many interesting buildings, once part of the gunpowder works (see additional information). Our way back to Stithians is mostly along peaceful and pretty Cornish lanes but towards the end we strike off across country, passing a Cornish standing stone to reach the outskirts of Stithians. The final leg is simply a matter of retracing our outward route to the start.
