This great little walk can almost be entitled 'a marina walk' as it visits three: Ventnor Farm Marina and Calcutt Marina, both on the Grand Union Canal; and Napton Marina on the North Oxford Canal.
It starts at the village of Stockton, taking well-defined field-paths in the lovely countryside of Warwickshire. A bridleway leads to the Grand Union Canal for a considerable stretch of towpath-walking, to reach the Calcutt Locks with their distinctive white and black paintwork on gates and paddles.
There is always much to interest the passer-by at such places and it is easy to pick out the novice from the experienced boater. From here, the Grand Union Canal is crossed, the route continuing on the edge of Napton Reservoir, a large expanse of water surrounded by glorious natural meadowland.
The route takes to paths in meadowland, the flora and fauna rich and prolific on the next lap. There follows another length of towpath-walking, this time on the Oxford Canal from Napton Marina to the "Bridge at Napton", a public house on the side of the canal. Field-paths ensue once more, with very pleasant views over farmland and beyond, on the return to the attractive village of Stockton.
