The canal town of Stone is the starting point of this pleasant walk in the North Staffordshire countryside. Situated between Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent, it is a bustling little town particularly during the summer, when the colourful boats are passing through. The walk follows the canal as it winds out of town into the countryside towards Barlaston, home of the well-known Wedgwood pottery company, with pleasant views all round. After leaving the canal and Barlaston it goes across Downs Bank, a local beauty spot of wood and heathland, before returning to Stone via the canal. This is an easy walk for all ages through pleasant and interesting countryside.
