We leave the Forestry Car park at Stonehaugh to pass behind the village, following the path running alongside the Warksburn Gorge. Passing through some woodland we drop down to the remains of Holywell Cottage and the Black Pool, also known as the 'Bottomless Linn' due to its depth and lack of water movement in it. We leave here to cross some open access land to join a section of the Pennine Way to Linacres where we leave it to cross fields to the edge of the forest, then following the path alongside to reach the road. After a short road walk we make our way to low Roses Bower, where one of the outbuildings was a toilet, known as the 'Long Drop' for the toilet seat was suspended aprox 40 feet above the burn! Following the path down we cross over the burn to retrace our route back to the Car Park.
