One of several walks around historic Strathpeffer, a spa which grew in Victorian times because of the attraction of its health-restoring waters. A London journal credited it with the most health-giving waters in the country; besides royalty, the most famous pilgrims to its waters include R L Stevenson, Shackleton of the Antarctic and George Bernard Shaw. The waters are still available... what better after a walk in the neighbourhood? There are many more places of interest in the village; details are available from the information centre at the car park. The wood lies on a hill on the northern outskirts of the village, overlooking the golf course. It offers views over Strath Peffer, the valley of the River Peffery. It's a popular walk with the local people and is a nice family walk (with dog). There is an information centre, shops, cafes and pub at or very near the car park. There is a bus service from Dingwall.
