As can be seen from some of the pictures, several sections of this walk can be quite muddy, so it is recommended that this walk is only done in wellingtons or walking-boots.

This walk starts just off the main route from Oldham to Huddersfield in an area of Oldham called Waterhead, which has easy access for both driving and public transport. The first part of the walk goes up to and then alongside a small reservoir. It then continues up to Grains Bar via several lanes. After visiting Grains Bar it descends towards Shaw before returning via a small reservoir, then through the edge of an estate to climb back up to the moorland again and continue alongside the River Medlock, before going down another urban road and returning to the opposite bank of the reservoir via a bridleway and footpaths. It follows parts of the Crompton Circuit and the Medlock Valley Way.

Alec, thank you for this walk it was amazing. It had everything including scenery with great views. We saw Alpacas and baby nanny goats. We were lucky and on this day in march the weather was sunny and warm. There were some boggy patches but with good walking boots there was no problem at all. It kept us interested all day long and it was a pleasure to be out seeing new things and there was even a trig point thrown in as well. Great Walk.
