Although it is not possible to walk through the tunnel from Strood to Higham, this part of the walk still has plenty to offer the walker with views over the Medway Towns and later the Thames estuary. Along the canal the walk is flatter and there is plenty of bird and insect life as well as sightings of passing ships. Gravesend is a historic town where Princess Pocohontas is buried. There is also a fort, esplanade and plenty of shopping.

Not a bad walk, took around 4 hours, roughly 10 miles. At waymark 2 the footpath has been closed due to major building works. Just carry on straight up the road to the junction, and opposite is the footpath required leading you to the church. The fare for the return journey was £4.20,taking 10 mins from platform 2.
