The walk starts and ends walking alongside the Rochdale canal from the highest point of the canal. The start of the walk is in Greater Manchester before a short section in Calderdale. After following the canal downstream there is then a climb, along both the PBW and RW, to reach a point where you leave the RW and continue along the PBW to reach the highest point of the walk.
After dropping down from the highest point you continue along the PBW, following roads and country lanes, to reach a farm. Just after the farm you leave the PBW crossing several fields to reach a road. There is then a small section on suburban roads before dropping down through some woodland to reach a major road. After a short section down the road the walk continues through a small residential area to reach the Rochdale Canal. The canal is then followed upstream back to the start point. The climb to the highest point is a climb of 195 metres in approx 1.78 kilometres.
