The walk starts from the old four-arched Sunderland Bridge, first passing through Coldstream Woods, in which roe deer were encountered. Then on over open fields, along country lanes and along more field-paths leading to Whitworth Hall Country Park with its hotel, restaurant and red deer herd. The walk then continues down Whitworth Road, to cross Page Bank Bridge and return along the peaceful banks of the River Wear to the start.
