Market Bosworth is a small, attractive and historically interesting town with a population of just over 2,000. The town centre is a conservation area with many old buildings surrounding the marketplace. There are a number of shops, pubs and restaurants, three churches and three schools. Close by is the site of the famous Battle of Bosworth, fought in 1485, with its visitor centre and walks with information boards giving details of the battle. Other places of interest are the Ashby Canal, the Water Park and The Country Park, all within walking distance of the town centre. The Shackerstone Steam Railway Line operates a regular service between Shackerstone and Shenton, the latter being within the battlefield site.
The right to hold a market in Market Bosworth goes back to the seventeenth century, when a charter was granted. Today the market operates every Wednesday with a variety of stalls selling fruit, vegetables, clothing, fish, fabric, plants and other items. There are excellent country views throughout the walk.
