This is an easy walk through an ancient landscape. Starting from a lay-by off the busy A417, we quickly reach a path along the top of a tranquil valley with glorious views across remote countryside. We are now deep in the Cotswold countryside, largely untouched by the modern world. The path leads to the hamlet of Syde with its tiny church, parts of which date back to the 11th Century.
Walking down to the bottom of the valley, we soon reach the lower part of the hamlet of Caudle Green. After passing some traditional Cotswold stone cottages, the walk goes along the bottom of another quiet valley, eventually ascending the head of the valley to reach the village of Brimpsfield. Another charming 12th Century church lies just on the edge of the village with the mound of a Norman castle nearby.
The walk continues across fields and down a narrow lane for a short distance before following a narrow path through woodland, close to a tinkling brook. There is then a short stretch uphill on a farm track and through meadows down to a series of lakes in the grounds of Brimpsfield Park. A longer uphill stretch on a farm track brings us to fields at the top of the valley and then back to the lay-by at the start of the walk.
