Symonds Yat is well known for its viewpoint looking down the Wye Valley Gorge, as it heads round a huge loop. It is also one of the best places in the country to watch peregrine falcons, although many other birds of prey can be seen here as well.
The walk starts just outside Lydbrook and takes in the viewpoint at Symonds Yat, climbs to the summit of Coppett Hill on the opposite side of the river, and also descends into the gorge to follow two sections of the River Wye, one on each side. It is a challenging walk, but well worth the effort to explore one of the most scenic sections of the Wye Valley. Parts of the river section are difficult to negotiate, and there is a long climb up Coppett Hill. The descent into the gorge is also quite steep, but it is mostly on a good path.
