The reserve follows the River Ennig, which flows from the Black Mountains down through Talgarth. It can be very muddy, although the paths are well-marked. There are usually dippers and grey wagtails in the river, as well as woodland birds including the unusual tree-creeper. The route given is just the bare route through the reserve and returning by road. However, the walk may be extended by taking some of the other tracks and exploring the area.
