Starting in Ayr High Street, after a brief walk in town this is a pleasant route on earth paths through parkland with views of the sea and River Doon. It follows the route taken by Tam o'Shanter in Burns's poem.
Tam's journey starts at the inn in Ayr High Street now named after him. It proceeds along a road before entering Belle Isle Park. It continues through picturesque woodland with views over the sea to Arran, with a further short pavement walk before entering Cambusdoon, where he rode his horse Meg beside the River Doon. He stops to watch the witches at Alloway Auld Haunted Kirk before being chased over The Brig O'Doon.
