Save Our Footpaths - get off the beaten track, this circular walk includes some footpaths close to Chester which are not often used. However, don't let this put you off as there are two locations of particular interest; the re-built and fully operational water powered Walk Mill on the river Gowy, and the ancient pack horse bridges over the same river in one of the most picturesque sections of the long distance Baker Way trail. Despite the uneven ground alongside several fields all of the footpaths are reasonably easy to walk and show some signs of use. There is a good variety of farm animals including horses, and some full-size model sheep decorate one cottage garden (photo on the right)... see if you can spot them. All of the stiles and gates are in good order and the return route takes you past the Crocodile Adventure Trail and a chance for children to use the swings. From field gates on the rural Platts Lane there are some excellent long distance views across the Gowy flood plain near the end of the walk.

The walk is suitable for children, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Most of the route is good for dogs, but there are a few stiles which are not dog friendly and you will probably have to lift your dog over them. The route is hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled such as good trainers, but boots will be best - especially in winter; and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts in summer. On your route there are very few facilities, but you may be able to purchase light refreshments and stone-ground flour at Walk Mill.
