I'm recording three days doing a gentle walk down the Thames path. These upper regions of the Thames make for an enjoyable and varied perambulation.
This first walk of mine does not start at the official source of the river but at Cirencester. This is due to a failure to book a room near Kemble as well as an abhorrence of doing the same bit of a walk twice. Making use of the Monarch's way and the Thames and Severn Path makes for a more varied start to the walk and we meet the official source about a quarter of the way along. Starting at Cirencester also allows for a visit to Quern's wood and the Roman Amphitheatre from Chesterton Lane before you start the described walk. These are only about ten minutes walk away from the start. Ashton Keynes is a pleasing Cotswold village with a pub.
Those who want to limit themselves to the Thames Path should easily find the short route northwards from either Kemble or The Thames Head Inn.
There is an extra gpx with many more waymarks in the related download section.
