We begin from the lovely white church of Cartajima (850m) by making our way down through the village to leave from the south. Now our way is a wide track past the lookout post (mirador) that soon begins to descend into the River Genal Valley. After a very steep final stage we arrive at the quiet tarmac lane that connects Júzcar with Pujerra. We go right and begin a two-kilometre climb along the lane to reach the amazing blue-painted pueblo of Júzcar (see additional information). After a break and exploring the village we face a very steep but short climb up to the road. You could opt to walk back along the road from here. A short walk along it brings us to a track down into the valley. We cross the streambed and begin a steady climb up the other side of the valley through delightful sweet chestnut woods. At the top we are back on our outward route and have only a few hundred metres back into Cartajima.
