Starting at The Brittania pub in Berechurch Road, Colchester, this circular walk follows mainly public footpaths through M.O.D land, including a stretch beside a rifle range, field paths and through Friday Woods. The only time you couldn't use these paths were if there were red flags flying to denote army training, but all the time I've used these paths, I've never seen the red flags in use.
There is also a short section through a cemetery, or if you prefer, you could use the path that runs around the outside of the cemetery and a few residential roads to reach the corner of Abbotts Road at waymark 4.
At the end you follow a garrison path which runs beside Colchester Barracks, before cutting across Abbey Field to arrive back at the pub car park.
