Not only does this circular walk include two popular and navigable attractive waterways, the Shropshire Union Canal and the River Dee (photo on the right), but the route also takes you past several of the city's most famous attractions. On these sections you can expect to encounter numerous pedestrians and tourists of all nationalities. Most of the trail is along hard firm paths and is very popular and busy all year round. Do not attempt this walk if the Chester Races are in session as the end of the route uses a footpath alongside the racecourse which will be closed to the public for security reasons. This walk includes instructions for walkers from moored canal and river boats.
The walk is suitable for children, teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in-between. OK for dogs, but difficult for buggies and hopeless for wheelchairs due to the numerous flights of steps. Suitable footwear will be anything flat soled and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts. There are refreshments and toilets at pubs along the site and only short diversions off the route would be needed. There are numerous bench seats scattered along the route, but no picnic tables. If you book in advance, you should be able to not only use the car park but get a good meal with your drink; an excellent finish to a good walk.
