The walk follows a cycle trail through Auchencruive Estate past smallholdings and nurseries on a narrow tarmacked road, before following closely to the now wide river through the town of Ayr to the sea. The banks of the river are full of wildflowers, with some woodland areas. The part of the walk through the park is lined with flowers. The walk passes opposite the Auld Kirk, where Robert Burns was baptised. The old centre of Ayr is worth viewing, with some interesting buildings and old bridges. Finally the walk finishes as the river meets the sea.
