A very pleasant short walk, primarily suited to wheelchairs, through shady spruce woods on the outskirts of Strathpeffer, a delightful old Victorian spa. The route, on good paths, passes a house where wood carvings are on display and for sale, before entering the wood. Where the path comes to the edge of the wood there are nice views across the valley of the River Peffery to Ben Wyvis and to Castle Leod (open to the public in summer). The stone circle (Touchstone Maze) consists of samples of the major rock types in the Highlands, set in concentric circles and arranged so that the solstices and eqinoxes can be determined. Two information boards on site explain all.
Walkers wishing to visit the maze and then go on to longer walks can easily access Walks 2741 and 3074 from it.
Dogs are welcome. Refreshments, toilets, shops etc. are available in Strathpeffer.
