This walk replaces the similar Hertford Union Canal walk contributed by Chris Newman. Some sections have been added and others removed due to regeneration and works for the 2012 London Olympics.
The walk is mainly along canals and the River Lee Navigation. These were formerly the arteries of London's industry but are now used mainly for leisure. The waterways provide habitat for a variety of wildlife including terns, cormorants, geese, swans and ducks. Modern developments been been built alongside many sections of the waterways.
NB: if the works for the Games do temporarily affect any sections of this walk, please let us know.
