This third part of the Gritstone Trail is shorter and less demanding in terms of ascents. It uses parts of the Biddulph Way and goes through the Whitemore Local Nature Reserve, as well as visiting the folly at Mow Cop. The views from the Mow Cop ridge are spectacular, often revealing the Jodrell Bank radio telescope dish out in the Cheshire plain. The later section, along the Macclesfield Canal, goes through pleasant countryside. Finally the Trent and Mersey Canal section has the strange red-coloured water, said to be caused by iron minerals.
