Our circular walk follows the stunning North Cornwall coast path, with its rugged cliffs and rock structures, down to the hamlet of Trebarwith Strand. Here are large areas of unusual black rock with veins of pink rhodenite, of which, at low tide, small pieces may be found on the beach.

After taking a break, we leave the strand and head away from the sea along the road for a short way, before heading across surrounding farmland and country paths towards the small hamlet of Treknow. Along the way there is a variety of flora and fauna to delight all who enjoy the natural beauty of the countryside.

After proceeding along the quiet road through Treknow, our walk briefly runs along the main Tintagel road before again joining a quiet country lane and further footpaths as we continue toward the bustling tourist village of Tintagel.

After looking around this famous tourist village, we walk along the road to Bossiney, where we rejoin the coast path to pass Barras Nose and follow the coast down to Merlin's Cave beneath Tintagel Castle, reputed to have been the birthplace of King Arthur.

Here we have the opportunity to explore its historic connections to one of England's most famous legends, that of King Arthur and Merlin. It is worthwhile taking a moment, on reaching the castle and cove, to sit a moment and soak up the atmosphere that is in abundance and perhaps catch a glimpse of a seal or two, resting near the opening of Merlin's Cave. There are toilets and refreshments here, and having taken our fill, we retrace our steps briefly before climbing the steep hill of the coast path past the castle entrance. Once on the clifftop again, there are great views over the castle before we arrive back at Glebe Cliff and our vehicle.

26/12/18 Enjoyed the coastal part of this walk- the inland bit is so so. We had a drink at the friendly pub in Trebarwith. Everything was closed down by Merlin's cave and English Heritage were doing some works to the castle so that will be closed for a little while I expect. We awarded ourselves with a Cornish cream tea in Tintagel!
