This walk is quite demanding, with several steep climbs and descents. Most of the route is well-walked and stiles are mostly easy to find.
The access to Dove Dale from the Tissington area follows a concessionary path provided across National Trust land, emerging in Dove Dale at 'Lovers Leap'. The route then follows probably one of the more scenic sections of the valley before crossing the river to access Hall Dale.
The return includes a steep descent and climb into and out of Mill Dale, then follows paths above the Dove Valley.
The pub used on this walk is The George in Alstonefield. This is a popular pub with walkers and is mostly very busy. They offer a good-value menu (food should be ordered from the kitchen door rather than at the bar), also some interesting hand-pulled beers. The pub is quite small and quickly becomes full inside. There are several bench tables outside with most at the front, though others are available in the small car park behind the pub.
