The mysterious Darrow Wood is a motte and bailey tucked away off the beaten track. Nothing is known about it; when it was built, by whom, nor when it fell into disuse. Walkers need to be pretty determined to reach it for a close look, as in winter the moat is wet and muddy and in summer the nettles formidable. The walk takes a loop across farmland and it although has some tarmac, it is an enjoyable excursion.
