There is work going on at the reservoir and the footpath is diverted to cross the river below the dam. This is Just after Waypoint 6.There are temporary scaffold steps with perforated metal treads , there is a warning that dogs claws could get caught in these metal steps - there is no alternative route. So this walk is currently unsuitable for dogs , unless you can carry them down the steps

The Brecon Mountain Railway is running to Torpantau from the 2014 season

One of our favourite walks - worth noting that the return stretch along the valley floor is always boggy so waterproof boots are a must. We have combined this with walk 1290 a couple of times to make a great full day walk of around 12 miles that can also be walked in reverse and gives the option of including Pen-y-Fan, Corn Du and the Cribyn depending on how much energy you have on the day. As of Feb 2013 the Brecon Railway still hasn't been extended to Torpantau but the old railway tunnel is still worth a look.

Very enjoyable walk - bit of a pull at the beginning but from there on easy going. Reservoir empty again!! A bit boggy in places so dogs were rather muddy. We clocked up 41/2 miles in total.

Further to the previous note, the 2 footbridges in step 8 have now been repaired or replaced and are fine. Also, you are still not able to leave or join the Brecon Mountain Railway at step 2. This is a lovely walk by the way.

Just some notes really. The building shown in the photo at step 1 has gone. Also, the 2 footbridges used in step 8 are in very poor repair and are fenced off and marked as 'Danger Keep Off'. They are passable with care.
