This outstanding circular walk starts from Trevélez, the highest village in Spain (some say Europe) and is one of several possible routes generally following the line of the Río Trevélez as it flows down out of the high Alpujarras. This route follows the River Trevélez up to just before the bridge below the junction with the Río Culo Perro (Dog’s Bottom) and then climbs steeply up 350m onto the side of Mulhacén, returning to Trevélez with spectacular views down into the gorge and over to the high sierras. If you wish to combine it with 2277, the Cotijo de Chordi walk, for a longer circular walk avoiding much of the wet Río Trevélez valley floor, follow Walk 2277 until Waypoint 16, then pick up this walk at Waymark 8 and prepare yourself for a steep climb away from the river.
