Tytherington is a small village near Thornbury which is surrounded by several disused quarries. The circular walk starts from the village, heading over Tytherington Hill and passing the remains of one of these quarries, now covered in woodland.

The walk then heads onto the Tortworth Estate, which is a huge estate that has been privately owned since 1620 and includes 450 acres of woodland. Parts of the estate are now enclosed within the grounds of a hotel and Leyhill Prison, but there is still plenty open to the public that is well worth exploring. A circular walk around Tortworth Lake, at the heart of the estate, can also be included in the walk. It is normally closed to the public, but opened up on the first Sunday of every month from February to October.

Waymark 11 is now open. We did this walk on 1/9/21 and the farmer himself opened the gate for us. He was absolutely delightful.

Still being asked to avoid waymark 11. Kevin Wood

At waymark 30, the steps are on the right of the road and not the left. At waymark 11, the farm are asking the public not to use the path through the farm due to Covid-19. We shortened the walk by picking up from waymark 20, which avoids the farm (and the loop around the Tortworth estate, sadly)
