The route starts on the outskirts of Ullapool and descends to cross the Ullapool River. The path is good to Waymark 06; from then on it is not always present, necessitating walking on the pebbly beach. There are a few rocky headlands to cross but they are no problem... there is always a path, alongside a fence. Views are excellent all the way. At Waymark 09 the Allt an t-Strathain has to be forded. if it is too high, follow it upstream to the road-bridge (NH 110967) then take the minor road to Rhue, thence by path down to the lighthouse.

Rather than return by the same route we made a circular walk of it by going up to Rhue from the lighthouse, along the minor road to join the A835 and following it back to Ullapool. This road can be busy, but the grassy verges are wide enough to give comfortable walking. There is a super view from the top of the hill at NH 114961.

Boots are advised and dogs welcome (on lead if following the A835).
