Underscar - Skiddaw Little Man - Skiddaw - Bakestall - Whitewater Dash - Skiddaw House - Underscar
This walk starts off at Underscar Car Park at the end of Gale Road which, at 300m above sea level, is one of the best start locations for exploring the Skiddaw Massif. The route starts with a steep, continuous ascent of what is known as the 'tourist route' on Skiddaw.
On arrival at Jenkin Hill the route turns left and follows a steep path up to Skiddaw Little Man. The view from the top of the first Wainwright on the walk is superb, stretching for miles to the south, west and east. After a steep descent and another ascent you will finally arrive at Skiddaw, with a 270-degree panorama from west to east. Skiddaw is 931m (3,054ft) above sea level and only a handful of peaks in Lakeland are higher.
From the summit, the route heads north and descends to the third Wainwright, Bakestall. From there it's another steep descent to Whitewater Dash and then a long trackway to Skiddaw House. Skiddaw House is owned by the YHA and is one of the most remote youth hostels in the country. The last leg of the walk passes under the steep crags and rocks of the east face of Lonscale Fell, with Lonscale Pike towering high above, before arriving back at the car park.
