Upavon - Bohune Down - Littlecott Down

This circular walk is a bit on the wild side and for the most part, is over open downland used by the MoD for exercises. Starting from Upavon, you will walk up Upavon Hill and get great views along the Bohune Down, where you pass close to a conservation area. After turning southwards you will follow good tracks (MoD roads) over Littlecott Down, before walking along the northern edge of the valley, Rainbow Bottom, then down to Littlecott. On reaching the main road you have the option to take a shorter or longer route: for the shorter 14km route, turn right and follow the road northwards alongside the River Avon, through East Chisenbury and back to Upavon; for the longer, 18km route, turn left and follow the road around to cross the river-bridge to the A345. From there you will follow footpaths through the villages of Enford and Compton, then up to the downs again to follow the Wessex Ridgeway over to the Iron Age fort of Casterly Camp. From here it is all downhill back to Upavon.
