From the field car park of Upton House, the walk takes field-paths towards the woodland of Sunrising Hill. It passes Westcote Manor and Farm, then takes the old and leafy King John's Lane, ascending to Edgehill. The Castle Inn stands on the road through the village on a high vantage point overlooking the extensive woodland below and the battlefields of the English Civil War. The quarrying that took place in this area has left deep crevices and a dramatic landscape in addition to the naturally beautiful contours. Upton House is impressive, dating from 1695; it contains the outstanding collection of paintings, tapestries and porcelain of Lord Bearsted, who bought the property in 1927 and was the famous Chairman of Shell from 1921 - 46 and son of the founder of that company.

Enjoyed this walk. Good views and not too muddy. The Castle pub at Edge Hill is a good place for refreshments. We did a small detour near the end to avoid walking along the A422.

Between point 9 and10 you have to cross a stream. The path is very overgrown and secateurs might help. When you come towards the stream turn right at the end of the field and the way through is about 100yds up the hill. Some bits still muddy after several weeks without rain.

Went on this walk at the weekend. Some of the paths had not been walked much so shorts not advisable. Also the tree plantations are now woods. There are also some really nice views. Would also recommend a visit to Upton House on return.
