This is the last of 15 circular walks encompassing the West Devon Way. It starts not far from Meldon reservoir by a bridge that leads up to the Granite Way and will take you along the fast flowing West Okement river then through a golf course to the Museum of Dartmoor Life in the centre of Okehampton. If you time it right you have the opportunity to stop for lunch there. The return will take you into the wilds of the moor and into the Okehampton live firing range to pass under Yes Tor and then back over the West Okement on the spectacular iron bridge of Meldon Viaduct. There will be some days when you cannot do the walk because of live firing when the public are prohibited from going on to the moor. If you pick one of the these days for your walk then there is an alternative return route using the Granite Way shared Cycle/walking track. It cuts off about 2km but is still a pleasant and also an easy walk with a height gain of just 196m instead of 375 and most of that is walking up from Okehampton town to the Granite Way by the station.
