From Plymbridge the West Devon Way continues all the way to Goodameavy on the old railway line now a cycle track which is a bit over 4 miles. It does go through a tunnel and over several impressive viaducts but so as you can visit the countryside on either side of the railway the 4 miles of railway track cycle path is split into two walks with Walk 3 only going as far as Bickleigh railway bridge for a 4.5 mile walk. On this walk you will also go along an old tramway that winds its way through Plymbridge woods. Part way along the cycle track we are going to drop down to the river Plym this is because what would be the return path at the Bickleigh railway bridge end down to the river is very steep and extremely slippery if wet and it is much safer to walk up than down. So for a short stretch of the West Devon Way you will be walking back in a southerly direction to do a figure of 8 walk. You will also use a permissive path along the edge of the river Plym. It's a well walked river edge path but there is a possibility that if there has been a lot of rain the river may have flooded bits of this path and you may have to find a higher route.

This as a lovely walk, despite it raining for most of it. I don't know what the height gain was, but it's not zero unless you stick to the cycle track and return on the same path. It's not difficult, although the path down to the river from the cycle track had two tree trunks across which meant crouching underneath or carefully climbing over, as it was muddy and next to the river. There is also one step missing from some wooden steps down a little after the tree trunks. It was a little wet underfoot despite a recent dry spell, so stout shoes and maybe a trekking pole are recommended as the rocks can be slippery.
