This walk starts off at the national trust car park at Great Wood. The start of the walk follows a path alongside Cat Gill, which is a steep path but a quick way to ascend Walla Crag. From the steep footpath there are lovely views back to Derwent Water and Catbells. Although the top of Walla Crag isn't very high by Lakelands standards, it does offer some of the best views of the Vale of Keswick, Skiddaw and the nearby lakes of Bassenthwaite and Derwent.

After enjoying the amazing views from the summit, the descent is much more gentle compared to the ascent. The path heads down to Rakefoot before a return journey through Great Wood itself.

This is a lovely walk with wonderful views but to grade it as easy is misleading as the ascent by the gill is pretty strenuous and would not be suitable for someone looking for a truly easy walk.
