This walk starts in the centre of Walsden, which has easy access for both driving and public transport. The start of the walk is a climb of about 3.5 kilometres with a couple of level sections, to reach the trig point at Freeholds Top (Trough End Edge). The next section is across the hillside, dropping down to a farm track before crossing more fields to reach Gorpley Reservoir and Gorpley Clough. There is then a walk through Gorpley Clough alongside a stream to reach a road. After a short section down the road there is a stretch along the canal towpath to the start point.

The route uses rural roads, farm tracks, footpaths, road and a canal towpath. It follows part of the Todmorden Centenary Way. There are a number of moorland streams which you cross and walk alongside along the route. There are a number of listed buildings or structures on this walk; see additional information for more details. Street names are included for clarity.

Did the walk yesterday (24/6/20. There are now a number of young tree plantations between WM11 and WM13. The paths still exist however as you walk along the track from WM11 it appears to enter the plantation via a stile. You do not need to cross the stile as the track reappears at the far end of the plantation which you would have to leave by a gate and walk around the fence. You can all alongside the fence to reach the path on the far side.
