This walk starts in the centre of Walsden which has easy access for both driving and public transport.
The start of the walk is a climb of approx 2.25 kilometres with a couple of level sections, crossing the Pennine Bridle Way (PBW) to reach Gaddings Dam. The second section is around the edge of the reservoir and across moorland, using paths and a causeway, to reach Warland Reservoir, following a very short section of the Todmorden Centenary Way (TCW)/Pennine Way(PW). The third section is a descent of approx 1.16 kilometres down the moor to reach a farm access road. This is followed downhill to reach the PBW. The final section follows the PBW for approx 225 metres before dropping down to the Rochdale Canal via several roads. The route crosses the canal before following an urban road back to the start point.
The walk uses rural and urban roads, farm tracks and footpaths. Some of the footpaths are not shown on the map but are visible on the ground especially in the section between the two reservoirs. Street names are included for clarity. WM22 to WM26 is one 'road' but the name changes three times so WM24 and WM25 added for clarity.
