From South Bridge in Wareham, this walk is full of breathtaking scenes and natural beauty. Right at the start, the riverside scenes by South Bridge are entrancing, with ducks swimming madly around to catch any crumb thrown to them by visitors. Just by is the picturesque setting of the Old Granary, the Priory of St Mary that fronts the church of the same name and colourful yachts moored along the banks. Stoborough Heath is a joyous experience with abundant gorse and heather, where wild ponies and roe-deer can be seen. It is advisable to carry a map and compass here as animal tracks can be confusing and it is important to find the railway crossing where this walk turns and leaves the Purbeck Way. The first leg of the walk is retraced at the finish from Ridge, with the double pleasure of the riverside back to South Bridge.
