It starts with a link to the Rossendale Way (RW) uphill to reach the RW just below Cowpe Lowe. This is then followed to reach Cragg Quarry. From the quarry there is a diversion from the RW to pass a wind turbine to reach the first high point of the walk. You pass through the remains of another disused quarry to reach Rooley Moor Road. There then follows a second climb to reach the second high point of the walk before dropping down to reach the Pennine Bridleway (PBW). You then return to the start point crossing fields and farm lanes before passing through a small village. There are two trig points which can be accessed using slight diversions. These are at Cowpe Lowe (near Waymark 13) and Top of Leach (near Waymark 23), although the walk does not include them.

There are reminders of the industrial heritage of the area, including the remains of several tramways used to transport stone from the various quarries in the area. There are five stiles on this walk and the majority of the walk is along stony tracks. Street names are added for clarity.
